INFORMATION ON BADIA AL PINO

torre dell'antico castello a badia al pinoA classic fortified village, Badia al Pino was founded in the eleventh century around the ancient Abbey of Pino. It was later transformed into an essentially rural settlement after the dissolution of the abbey in 1441.

With the arrival of the train and the transfer of the town hall location in 1917 it became an important centre for economic activity, residences and services. To note is the church of S. Bartolomeo, attached to the abbey, whose origins date to the tenth century and which has undergone numerous renovations and alterations over the course of centuries. Also to note is a 17th century building, the seat of the town hall from 1917 to the early 1970s, which is now the town library.

Near Badia al Pino there is a little town called Dorna. It was a Longobard fortress of substantial size and in the 18th century it came under several different rules. We can still see some remains of the ancient fortifications. Today the oldest part, which has remained intact, is the tower, of which there is documentation dating back to 1198 and is situated in the central part of the complex.

We will provide you with a map of Badia al Pino.
